The 2^nd Art Projects for Breath

It all began during the conference between Chiang Mai Breath Council and several artist associations in 2019. All the participants are ones who face the air pollution problem and therefore have the urge to participate in solving the problem according to their abilities and potential. Hence, ART for AIR project – The art projects for breath – was established. The problem is not the duty of any individual organization to bear. Instead, it requires participation from every sector. Working with artisans and people from art & culture fields will help connect and unite people due to their abilities to perform and communicate to make sure people understand the problem. This project is also supported by the association of creative citizens.

At present, ART for AIR – The art projects for breath – has represented the power of the citizen, together with cultural artists in Chiang Mai and nearby provinces. The project stands its ground in working cooperatively to solve the PM2.5 air pollution which has lasted for more than a decade. The project also manifests its determination to use artistic, cultural and social activities to push forward problem solving in short term, intermediate term and in the long run. Accordingly, ART for AIR – The art projects for breath (the 1st one) was held from the 14th February – 30th of April 2022 at The Chiang Mai City Arts and Culture Centre, Central group’s Jing Jai Wearhouse, Gallery Seescape, The Meeting Room Art Gallery, Dream Space Gallery CNX, Maiiam Museum of Contemporary Art, ChiangMai Art Museum and many other art spaces as well as public exhibition spaces around Chiang Mai

This time, the activity will be the second move of ART for AIR which aims to draw creative people from many fields to participate without any limitation on the age, gender, nationality or working genre and techniques. We would like to expand the participants’ field to artists, curators and other broader fields of art. It will be expanded to art spaces in Bangkok and other provinces, so that every organization can participate in holding exhibitions for the air and the environment. The ART for AIR 2, therefore, started in October 2022 and will last until October 2023 (1 year in total). We believe that the participation from artists and art spaces will make the exhibitions about remedies for air and environment be heard and recognized in society. Although art itself is not meant to directly solve problems, the determination to participate will make noise, and it will be heard. Eventually, the problems will be recognized as the world’s critical issue. We believe that this movement will be an important stream for the future world of art and will bring about the remedies from every sector before the problem becomes unsolvable.
