อังกฤษ อัจฉริยโสภณ เกิดเมื่อปี 2519 ที่จังหวัดเชียงราย จบการศึกษาระดับปริญญาโท สาขาสื่อศิลปะและการออกแบบสื่อ จากมหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ เป็นผู้ก่อตั้ง อังกฤษ แกลลอรี่ เชียงราย Angkrit Gallery (2008-2015) และ ARTIST+RUN กรุงเทพฯ (2016 – ปัจจุบัน) อังกฤษ เริ่มแสดงผลงานเดี่ยวครั้งแรกในปี 1997 ชื่อนิทรรศการ “No Junk Mail” ที่ Otago Polytechnic Studio เมือง Dunedin ประเทศ New Zealand ทำงานในฐานะภัณฑารักษ์ ในนิทรรศการ Chiang Mai Now 2011 ที่หอศิลปวัฒนธรรมแห่งกรุงเทพมหานคร และ ภัณฑารักษ์ร่วมในนิทรรศการ Singapore Biennale ปี 2013 ที่ Singapore Art Museum ประเทศสิงค์โปร์ ปัจจุบันเป็นผู้จัดการแกลลอรี่ และศิลปินอิสระ

Angkrit Ajchariyasophon was born in 1976, in Chiang Rai province. He completed his Masters degree in Communication Arts and Design from Chiang Mai University, and is the founder of the Angkrit Gallery in Chiang Rai (2008-2015), as well as the ARTIST+RUN Bangkok program (2016-present). Angkrit began featuring his works in solo exhibitions for the first time in 1997 with the exhibition “No Junk Mail” at the Otago Polytechnic Studio in Dunedin, New Zealand. He has also worked as the curator for the Chiang Mai Now 2011 exhibition at the Bangkok Arts and Cultural Center, as well as co-curated the Singapore Biennale in 2013 at the Singapore Art Museum. He is currently an independent gallery manager and artist.

อังกฤษ อัจฉริยโสภณ สร้างงานชุด WHEN IN DOUBT PAINT RED จากการเลือก “ปะติดปะต่อ” ชิ้นส่วนของผ้าแคนวาส ที่เหลือและเป็นงานเก่าจากการทำงานศิลปะในสตูดิโอของตัวเอง การค้นหาจัดเรียงคัดสรรผ้าใบในสตูดิโอได้รับการอุปมากับการทำงานของนักโบราณคดีที่เก็บชิ้นส่วน กระดูกสัตว์ดึกดำบรรพ์ เศษกระเบื้อง ลูกปัด ฯลฯ และสร้างเรื่องราวขึ้นมาใหม่ ศิลปินวาด ระบาย สาดสีทับซ้อนทำลายภาพเดิม โดยตั้งใจให้มีรูปแบบของจิตรกรรมนามธรรม ที่ไม่บ่งบอกเรื่องราวเฉพาะเจาะจง เป็นการมอบอำนาจในการตีความคืนให้กับผู้ชม ด้วยเพราะความเหนื่อยหน่ายในขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณีแบบอนุรักษ์นิยมที่กดทับสิทธิและเสรีภาพ ซึ่งทำให้เกิดปัญหาเชิงโครงสร้าง ทั้งทางสังคมการเมืองวัฒนธรรมรวมถึงสิ่งแวดล้อม งานชุดนี้แม้จะไม่ได้สื่อสารเรื่องราวทางสิ่งแวดล้อมโดยตรง แต่ก็คืองานจิตรกรรมที่สร้างขึ้นจากช่วงเวลาของการตั้งคำถามบนระนาบ เน้นย้ำด้วยฝุ่นขี้เถ้าจากการเผาไร่นาที่ปกคลุมไปทั่วทั้งชิ้นผลงาน

Angkrit Ajchariyasophon created his work ‘WHEN IN DOUBT PAINT RED’ by ‘piecing together’ pieces of canvas cloth leftover as scraps or discarded works from old works within his own studio. The process of finding and arranging each piece of cloth in his studio is imagined as akin to that of archeologists who unearth and catalog the remains of ancient animals, ceramics, marbles, etc. The artist then rewrites the narrative by drawing, painting, and splashing paint on top of the existing image, intentionally turning the piece into a work of abstract art that does not convey any specific story, as a way of returning the power of interpretation back to the audience. Due to the smothering traditions and conservative values that hinder our rights and freedoms, which have given rise to a plethora of systematic and social problems to this day. This art piece may not directly convey a message about the environment, but it is a painting that was created in a time where many questions are being raised on the horizon, reinforced by the ashes collected from rice paddy burnings that have been scattered across the piece.
