สัญชัย ชัยนันท์ เกิดที่จัดหวัดเชียงใหม่ ในปี พ.ศ. 2531 จบการศึกษาจากมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคลล้านนา เชียงใหม่ ด้วยความสนใจทั้งศิลปะและดนตรี จึงได้เป็นหนึ่งในผู้ร่วมก่อตั้งวงดนตรี “สนิมหยก” ซึ่งเป็นวงดนตรีที่ผสมผสานระหว่างบลูส์และไซคีเดลิคร๊อค และมีผลงานร่วมแสดงนิทรรศการศิลปะอย่างสม่ำเสมอ โดยมีนิทรรศการล่าสุด คือ Dream in progress Exhibition by SANCHAI and KANEAT ณ Dream space gallery CNX ในปี พ.ศ. 2563 ปัจจุบัน สัญชัยพำนักในจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ เป็นศิลปินอิสระในแนวทาง Street Art โดยมีตัวละครมนุษย์สีเขียวที่ล้อเลียนสังคม และการเมืองเป็นผู้ดำเนินเรื่องราว ผลงานของเขามีเป้าหมายเพื่อสร้างความตื่นตัวให้กับผู้ชม ในเรื่องสิ่งแวดล้อมในสำเนียงของคนรุ่นใหม่  

Sanchai Chaianan was born in Chiang Mai, in the year 1988. He completed his undergraduate studies from the Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, Chiang Mai, with an interest in arts and music. This led to his founding of the band ‘Sanim Yok’ (Jade Rust), which performed a combination of Blues and Psychedelic Rock music. All the while, Sanchai also contributed his works to numerous exhibitions, with his latest being ‘Dream in progress Exhibition by SANCHAI and KANEAT’ at the Dream space gallery CNX in 2020. Sanchai currently resides in Chiang Mai, where he is an independent street artist. His signature character of a green human is commonly used to portray social and political satire. Sanchai’s works aim to raise awareness of climate issues among his audiences, using the language of today’s youth.

แนวความคิด / Concept

ศรีษะขนาดใหญ่ของมนุษย์ตัวเขียวที่ชื่อว่า “หัวหนานเมือง” ของสัญชัย ชัยนันท์ เป็นหนึ่งในสัญลักษณ์ที่น่าสนใจ โดยหัวหนานเมือง เป็นตัวละครจากวิหารลายคำ วัดพระสิงห์ ถูกนำมาใช้เพื่อสะท้อนการเปลี่ยนแปลงของเมืองเชียงใหม่ในปัจจุบัน ศิลปินได้สร้างขึ้นจากวัสดุธรรมชาติ และวัสดุเหลือใช้ พร้อมกับตัวหนังสือ S.O.S (save our soul) ประติมากรรมศรีษะนี้ภายในผู้ชมสามารถเข้าไปพื้นที่ภายในและพบกับข่าวสิ่งแวดล้อมมากมายข้างในที่ช่วยสื่อสารให้กับผู้ชมได้เห็นว่าคนรุ่นใหม่ที่อาศัยอยู่ในเมืองเชียงใหม่นั้นก็รับรู้ปัญหา และต้องการมีส่วนร่วมในเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับสภาพอากาศด้วยเช่นกัน

The large head of Sanchai Chaianan’s green human character, the ‘Hua Nan Mueng’, is an interesting symbol. Originally, the character of ‘Hua Nan Mueng’ originated from the ‘Wihan Lai Kham’ (Lai Kham Sanctuary)  in Wat Phra Singh (Phra Singh Temple), but has been adapted to reflect the changing soul of present Chiang Mai. The artist creates his works from natural and recycled materials, accompanied by the initials S.O.S. (Save our Soul). This head sculpture can allow audiences to explore it’s interior, which is filled with environmental news clippings meant to communicate to viewers that the youth of Chiang Mai are now awake to the problem, and want to be active participants in solving it once and for all.
